There are three international airports in the area to choose from:
Salzburg: 84km.
Salzburg airport boasts the easiest transfer and the shortest distance to the area. The easiest route takes the main road through Germany around Bad Reichenhall and through to Lofer before heading south to Maishofen for Saalbach and Hinterglemm.
Innsbruck: 158km
Drivers from Innsbruck Airport would take the motorway to Wörgl before heading off to St Johann on the main road through Söll and Ellmau. At St Johann, the direct route to Leogang runs through Fieberbrunn and Hochfilzen. This can also be used by visitors heading for Saalbach and Hinterglemm, who should head through Leogang to Saalfelden and then down to Maishofen and the entrance to the Glemm valley.
In times of heavy snow it may be easier to take the route via St Johann to Lofer and then south to Saalfelden as described in the Salzburg description above. There is also a longer “scenic” option via Kitzbühel, Pass Thurn and Zell am See.
Munich: 218km
Driving from Munich Airport is a question of following the motorway towards Rosenheim and then south in the direction of Kufstein. One option in good weather is to take the route via Oberaudorf, Reit im Winkl and Waidring, or alternatively use the longer main road via Wörgl, Söll, St Johann and Saalfelden
